    ~Intermission~

I am dreading the final day
In which our time is short
    Counting down the days
    5, 4, 3, 2, 1…
    The bell rings
    Papers fly
    Summer has begun
    For some it is escape
A joyous occasion for which we celebrate
    But for others
It is a time for reminiscing the memories
    Because in that time
No words can ever describe the feeling
    Of parting with beloved comrades
That you have known for years
    With whom you have shared
Your dreams, hopes, secrets, thoughts and life with
    All to be a memory
    In future years
Sadness is a word that you could use
    But, it is truly
    You wanting to hold on
    Hold on to the past
    The brilliant and interesting past
    That will be no more
    Because what matters
    Is now
    Trying and trying
Not to stumble like you did in the past
    Moving on from the past
    Looking back at the past
    And laughing
Because it was a wonderful and unique past
Even with all the pain, struggle and heartbreak
    Since deep down
You know it only made you stronger
    They say, “Pain builds character”
    And that is true
But, that is not the point
    Needing to end the year
    On good terms
    With everyone you know
No one is ever ready to leave
    Dear friends
    Or teachers
    Saying the word
    Goodbye
    Shedding tears
    Is this the end?
    After all this time?
    One word
    Creates the realization
    The reality of the situation
    How dire
    What can you do?
    It is indeed
    An ending of a chapter
And the beginning of a new
We all will go our separate ways
    Carving our own paths
    In the endless battle
    Between ourselves
And what life throws at us
    Perhaps one day
    We will all reunite
    As our adult selves
    Creating havoc or peace
    Within the world
    Once again
    Sharing laughs and experiences
    We all call our own
    Such a dismal thought
    To dwell on
    De novo, an indescribable feeling
    After all
    There is happiness around
    Everything balances out
    Happiness vs. gloom
    You ultimately choose
    Which one wins out
    This year
    So many amazing experiences
    And others not so much
    Seems just like yesterday
    They all combine
    Into a bliss filled mixture
The kind that makes you smile
Like a child tasting ice cream for the first time
    In the end
    “It doesn’t even matter”
    But in reality it does
Considering the memories we have made
    Will forever last
    We will and wish
    Each other the best
    As we wave goodbye
Looking out the window of the car or bus
    One last time
    Until then
    Take a bow

    Silence-

    Silence is golden
    Those three words
    Hold true
Just like many others you may know
She can see, smell and hear
    But can't taste or speak
    Controlled power
    Torturous battle raging within
Not only within but with the world
    Not angry, but disappointed
May I have my tea and drink it too?
Or am I damned just like that?
    She wants freedom
Despite that, her hands are full
Full of responsibilities and actions she's yet to take
X marks the spot, so drink up while you can

    Faint Memory~

    Bits and pieces scattered around
Sounds of laughter and comforting coos
    All but forgotten
    Too young to remember
    A mother's comfort and love
Short but sweet like a soft rain in a forest
    Quickly vanishes away
    A new rainbow appears
    Solid and forever
    New promises and experiences
    Forget the past
    Look forward to the future
    That stops short
    Need to revisit the past
    Early years, abandonment, hate
    Stirred emotions
    Finally, subconsciously fixed
    Forgiveness, but will never forget
What happened those many years ago
    In a small, humble village
    -Hailey Follstad

    Darkness~

    All hope is gone
    Nothing left is there
But the faint sound of your breathing
It envelopes you like a blanket
Then strangles you by the throat
    Loss of direction
    No where to run
    Like a caged in beast
    With nothing but air
    Hold your breathe
    Close your eyes
    And count to ten
    Your mind plays tricks
    It's only your imagination
    You are safe for now
    1...2...3...open
The darkness will always surround me
    I need a light

    Blinded-

A scar runs across her face
    Everyone sees the obvious
    They exclaim
"Oh! How horrific! What happened, dear?"
She just smiles and sheds a tear
No one but herself truly knows
    What is underneath
    Smiling politely
    For the world
    She is hardly in euphoria
    Knowing
    Understanding
She is blind to pure beauty
    Rainbows and sights beyond imagination
    Yet, she serves her guests
With an unhindered kindness, grace, and dedication
    She has something sacred inside
More than most people in this world have now a day
    For real beauty
    Shines through
Even when all odds are against
    The light of day

    Music~

    Temporary fix
    To unpredictable reality

    For Those Lost-

    My heart mind and soul
    Overtaken by this…responsibility
    Knowing how hard life is
Caring for them, the innocents, till the end
Because what is humanity? You may ask
    Well…
It is life free from the horrors
The terror of seeing, hearing, and doing
    Horrible things
    That stain our souls
    Dehumanization…
    Genocide…
    Racism…
    And many more…
    I see the sadness
In the eyes I’ve helped treat
They ask, “Where is God when we need Him the most?”
    I stay silent
    Knowing only He can answer
It’s hard to tell in a place so dark
    So hopeless
    There is one thing
    For those lost
I give my best to you
    Quietly hoping
That this nightmare will come to an end

    -Hope-
    A small boy starving
A little girl with no arm
What has the world come to?
Is this how we shall live?
    Pitch black darkness
    Hard to see
    Cascades of grey dancing around
    Alas, a light breaks through
    A baby cries
    Someone dies
    Be strong and hope
    For dawn will repeat again

    The Feast of Sharth

    Nutty words
    Obliterated on Christmas day
    The sound of fire
    Blessing the cursed
    For there are no mortals
    Entailing our culture
    Revived by the spirit
    Of warm pixies and milkdust
    On a wild summer night
At the other side of the world
    Wolves howl at the sun
While the night evades this Olympic land
    Shadows quietly stalk their prey
And it looks like it's time to break free of that festival
    Moral values crushed
But I'm glued to my optimism
    Abundant in many ways
Like the final feast, like coming full circle
Hitting euphoria right on the mark
In a time long preceding the final drink

-Poem for the Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight-

    The craze of the airport
The mass of constantly moving people
    Feeling overwhelmed
    Almost sick
    Until a young gentleman
Helps a lady with her bag
    Something stirs within her heart
    Maybe love
    But, perhaps not
Her mind is focused on many other things
Fears too deep for one to understand
    Tight spaces
    Mayonnaise
    Her mom and dad
    Being divorced
    Bittersweet
    To think that her father
    Is finally getting married
    He never even bothered to
    Say anything
    Only distant and short
    Calls through the phone
    Wondering the ifs and whys
    A constant reminder that life
    Could have and should have
    Been different
    Moving on
    From these dismal thoughts
She is late to a flight
    Missed by four minutes
    So close, yet so far
    Not to worry
The young lady makes it through
    The next day she sits
    Pondering the thought
That she shall see the young man again
    And she does
In fact, he sits right next to her
    The two converse
    They talk about life
    Their family
    Their future
An electric charge is in the air
    Maybe just maybe
    This truly is love
    Too soon
    The plane descends
    An unspoken goodbye
    Is said through a kiss
    Both part ways
    The experiences they face
    Will tie their fate
    One a new beginning
    And the other an end
Combining into what we all know
    Life and death
The two desperate to see each other
    Finally do
    They share a dance
    And more kisses
Her newly wed father and stepmother
Smile at them from across the room
    We are genuinely
    Meant to be
But, it has only been twenty-four hours
    How is this possible?
    Statistics show differently
    Well, we call this
    Love at first sight

    Summer reading sucks.
    Your title is summer reading
You should judge a book by its cover
    Title=poem
    title=summer reading
    title sucks
    poem sucks
